Assistant Professor, Art History
College was the first place where I could be open about my academic passions and find friends with similar interests. I used to envy students whose parents could read over their papers or help them on the career path, but gradually I discovered that the university actually provides many of these services for us--and without the anxious parental asides. I also realized that the world is kind to undergrads since their energy and creativity are so valuable: once you take the initiative, you can usually find lots of people who are willing to support you.
